Frequently Asked Questions

Is GEX the same as Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3)?

Whereas traditional, mined calcium carbonate is unsustainable and limited in its application, our GEX eggshell bio-calcium can replace 30-50% of plastic, can be used with a wide range of plastics (including ocean-bound and recycled), and provides antibacterial properties. More, it is also much finer and softer than calcium carbonate, making it more versatile and much less abrasive on machinery.

Where is GEX patented?

GEX is patented in the US, UK, Australia, Taiwan, and China

Is GEX certified?

GEX is certified by SGS to be plastic and carbon reducing. We also have food-safe FDA certification, and certification to be antibacterial and FIR properties.

Can my brand get eco-certified using GEX?

Yes. we have several clients who have had their products certified as eco-friendly by using our GEX. One has even received special commendation from the UN.

Can GEX be used to meet California's mandate to reduce by 25%?

Yes, because it is eco-certified and sustainable.

Is it expensive or difficult to use?

GEX is much less expensive than PLA or other bio-plastics, and slightly more expensive than virgin plastics. It is very easy to incorporate into your manufacturing process, requiring almost zero downtime.

Why not use PLA or bio-plastics?

PLA is very expensive, and like the corn it comes from, can fluctuate in price and supply. Moreover, it cannot be recycled and can only biodegrade in very specific conditions. The sad truth is that the majority will wind up in landfills alongside petroleum-based plastic for 1000s of years.

Why not Oyster bio-calcium?

This is another great product, but has a more limited supply. There are also many counterfeit versions of this in the market. Moreover, the particles are rougher on machines than the bio-calcium derived from eggshells.
